LOCAL GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

This particular area of the province is ripe with the genealogies of an ecclectic mix of peoples; namely, Basques whalers and fishermen, Jersey fishermen, Portuguese, French settlers from St. Pierre and Miquelon, deserters off French ships, Europeans, French Acadians (from Cape Breton), Mi'kmaq, Scottish, English, Irish and American.

At one point, the metroplis of the area was the community known as Sandy Point. This community was located on the north side of St. George's Harbour with the community of St. George's opposite (or to the south).

As is depicted by our name, we are based in the Bay St. George area on the west coast of Newfoundland.
